TMD & TMJ Services & Treatment in Tweed
If you suffer from discomfort and pain caused by temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ disorder or TMD) your Tweed dentist can help! At Tweed Dental Care we offer treatment to help relieve painful TMD symptoms.
What is TMJ disorder?
Your temporomandibular joints (TMJ) are located in the front of each ear and connect to your jawbone. These joints are responsible for all the movements needed in biting, chewing, swallowing food, speaking and making facial expressions. Patients often suffer from a range of conditions which cause discomfort and pain in the area of the jaw joint, jaw and associated muscles.
What causes TMJ disorder?
The most common cause of TMJ is bruxism, the clenching or grinding of the teeth during sleep. Other contributing factors may include jaw injuries, arthritis, genetics, hormones, low-level infections and auto-immune diseases.
How can Tweed Dental Care help?
While there is no solution to TMJ disorder, once diagnosed we can help help treat the problem. We may recommend a specialized night guard to help correct your bite, which may help alleviate some of the stress and pressure on your teeth.
